I would like some helpful advice about suboxone.
Anything will help.
I'm on day 6 with the suboxone and I was taking two 8mg twice a day and just stopped taking two
8mg subs to now taking one 8mg sub (2) days ago. I don't want to be on suboxone for too long, and
heard that it is only a detox drug and should be taken for around 5-7 days only. I just need some
helpful advice.

Thanks,
April

April,
First of all, I would like to welcome you to the forum. We are here to help you in anyway that we can.

Suboxone can be used as a tool in detox but many patients also chose to take it as a maintenance medication to help them manage their addiction to opiates.
There is no real time limit for Suboxone. It is up to the patient and their provider as to how long the patient stays on Suboxone.

When you start a taper plan with Suboxone it is always better to try and not stop too suddenly.
Some people say if you stay on it longer than a week you become addicted to it.
But that is not true.
yes, you do become dependent on it. But that is different than addiction. With addiction we do things we would normally never in our wildest dreams do in order to obtain the opiates our bodies crave.
Commit crimes, steal, lie, cheat. You name it, most of us have probably done it.
But when we take Suboxone we start to put our lives together. Are able to go back to work and actually hold down a job because we don't have to be out on the hunt all day long looking to find something to just get us through another day.

I'm not going to lie to you. When you stop taking Suboxone, you will probably feel some sort of withdrawal. But if you do a slow enough taper those withdrawals can be kept at a minimum.
We have a lot of posts here on the forum, please take your time and read over the different posts of the other members. Some have been taking Suboxone for long periods of time and some not.

Always remember something, this is YOUR treatment and your recovery. You have to be the one making the decisions and no one else.

How are you feeling since starting treatment? When you are ready please tell us a little about yourself and how you came to decide on Suboxone for your treatment and how it has helped you.
Everything that you share on this forum may help someone else who reads what we are or have been through. It helps to know that no one is alone. We are all after the same goal. Recovery.

Hi April,
I'm Barbara and been on Suboxone for the last five years. I've gotten myself comfortable at 4 milligrams a day. If there's anybody who wanted off this great medication, it's me. I screamed and tried and tried and screamed. For right now, I'm where I am and have to accept it. If you can manage with a quick taper, God bless you. For so long we have medicated ourselves, diagnosed ourselves, and thought we could handle our recovery. When I got here I couldn't handle anything. My best thinking had gotten me over medicated on my pain meds and nowhere to go to get more. I also have Hepatitis C. I was told Subozone was bad for my liver, but I didn't have a choice other than Methadone. Being that I know how hard it is to withdraw from that, I chose to stay on the Suboxone. I keep close notice of my liver through blood work every three months...it has never been as high as when I was on opiates.
Good luck with your recovery. Stay close to Dee. I'll come on and guide you as well. It's one day at a time and one foot in front of the other.
Yours in the struggle,
Barbara
