Sleepiness from Suboxone Empty
PostSubject: Sleepiness from Suboxone   Sleepiness from Suboxone EmptyWed 03 Feb 2010, 2:51 pm

Hi,

My wife started using Suboxone a few days ago. Every time she takes it she gets really, really sleepy. Dr said this should not be happening. Anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what to do to fix it?

Hello My name is Dee and I am the manager of the forum.
What did the doctor tell you do to in regards to your wife? Did he suggest lowering her current dose of Suboxone? What dose is she taking now? Is she sleepy right from the onset of taking her medication or does it start after she has taken it, say like an hour or so afterwards?
I know this is a lot of questions. But it is always easier to talk you through something if we know all the facts.
You mentioned that your wife has only been taking Suboxone for a few days. It could be that her body has not adjusted to not taking opiates and starting the Suboxone. How long was she abusing opiates and which ones?
We are not doctors but advocates, we can give you our own experiences and what others have shared with us.
Please check in and let us know how things are going. I will wait around to see if you post again soon.
Yours in recovery,
Dee

Dr said that her body may adjust. She was taking percocet and vicodin for pain for about a year. No other medicine. She is sleepy immediately after she takes it.

May I ask you what her current dose of Suboxone is? Our wife's doctor is right. Sometimes it takes time for her body to adjust to the medication. I know that this is a stressful time for both you and your wife right now. You are probably wondering when things will get better. I can promise you things will get better. It may not be overnight. But they do get better.
Congratulations to both you and your wife. Life without opiates for most people is a distant wish. Until Suboxone many of us never though it could happen. We were literally stuck on an off and on again merry go round and there was nothing merry about it.l
It may help your wife if she gets out and stays active. As active as possible. Eat the right foods. When we are taking opiates we tend to neglect our bodies and in turn we get run down. It is time to take care of that. Eating the right foods and drinking plenty of fluids along with exercise if possible and long walks should help. Fresh air does wonders.

Remind yourselves the best is yet to come. You are starting a new life. Please let your wife know that she is more than welcome to join the forum as well.
We are here to support. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I'd like to encourage you to stay an actively posting member on the forum. It always helps to have support.
Is your wife going to or does she plan to attend counseling for her addiction? I would highly recommend it.
Keep us posted.
Dee

Sleepiness from Suboxone Snow_h10

Good Morning!
By saying 8-2 tablets twice a day you do mean 1- 8/2mg tablet twice daily, which would be 16mg of Suboxone a day.
If that is what your wife is taking it is her dose that is probably making her so sleepy.
It does take while for a patient to settle in on their dose of Suboxone. Did your doctor start your wife on Suboxone in his office or did he give her tablets to take home and tell her how to take them? Just curious on that one.
Suboxone induction is to be done in a doctor's office so the doctor can monitor the patient as to how they do with that first dose. After that first day, the doctor should then have the patient come back the next day for a med. check. The first week is the most important week. The doctor needs to make himself available to the patient for any questions. But to be honest most do not.
Once the patient is given that first tablet in many cases the rest of protocol is out the door. And the patients are on their own

Please follow this link it will take you to a section on our website that talks about that first appointment, Induction and stabilization.

Our Suboxone Assisted Treatment website is a wealth of information and I suggest that you go over it daily until you have read through it. Every time I read it I find something new and I have been reading it for a very long long time.

Did you know the makers of Suboxone have a nurse phone line that you may call if you have any questions about Suboxone. I will give you that number. The nurses are available Monday through Friday 9am-6:45 pm. But they are closed on weekends and holidays.
That phone number is: (877)782-6966

How is you wife today? When you have the time please let me know how she is. She was on my mind last night and I got to thinking about how she was and praying that the two of you hold on until you can ride this out. Once you wife is in the maintenance stage of her treatment things will be so much easier for her. There will still be work to do as far as her recovery goes but the medication part will be much more stable.
Yours in recovery,
Dee
