Hepatiis C and Suboxone Empty
PostSubject: Hepatiis C and Suboxone   Hepatiis C and Suboxone EmptySun 06 Dec 2009, 12:42 pm

Hepatiis C and Suboxone Icon_scratch I'm not sure if i'm on the proper forum for this question, so here we go. I have Hepatitis C and have been on Suboxone for 9 months now. For the last 3 months I have had severe headaches and some dizzyness. After 2 months of this and seing my family Dr. he finally figured out that I have high ammonia levels in my blood from my Liver. My family Dr thinks that I should stop taking the suboxone just in case, my G.I. Dr has no opinion about the suboxone and I go to see my suboxone Dr tomorrow and will ask him. I dont feel as if I am ready to stop taking the suboxone just yet but dont want to do any further damage to my liver. Does anyone on this forum have any personal experiance with this? Could it be the suboxone contributing to the high ammonia from my liver? Hepatiis C and Suboxone Icon_question

Hello Boy,
If you will go to our Suboxone Assisted Treatment website you will find an article on Suboxone and patients that suffer form other medical problems as well. The link for that area is:

Suboxone patients with Co-Occurring Medical Problems

I urge you to speak to your doctor. Don't give up, are you currently taking medication for Hep C? Please read the information and copy it if needed, carry it to your doctors appointment tomorrow.
Have you thought about switching over to Methadone maintenance Therapy? Methadone is safe on your liver, and many patients who have Hepatitis C do take Methadone.

Even if you are being treated for Hepatitis C you can still take Methadone.
Methadone, like Suboxone is a wonderful tool for managing addiction when combined with counseling. There is nothing wrong with either medication. The only difference in my opinion is that some people may be able to take Suboxone and some may not. For those people I highly recommend Methadone. Both medications have saved many lives over the last few years, despite the negative publicity that have gotten.
Please keep us up to date on how you are doing.
Don't worry about weather this is the right forum to post in or not. As long as you need and want support, it is definitely the right forum. That is what we are here for. Support combined with education.
Let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. I care and I am here for you.
Yours in Recovery,
Dee
