Craving sweets! Is this normal? Empty
PostSubject: Craving sweets! Is this normal?   Craving sweets! Is this normal? EmptySun 25 Nov 2012, 8:47 pm

Hello, I've been on 2mg suboxone for a week now & I find I am having serious cravings for sweets. I never was much of a sweets person. But this last week, I've been chowing down on cookies, doughnuts, pixie sticks, basically anything sweet! LOL is this normal? Is it the suboxone or something else? I googled it, but got mixed information. Maybe it's just the opiate withdrawal? If anyone else has any expoerience with this, I'd appreciate some input. I'd hate to gain weight! I hope it passes (is it a phase?)

Thank You

I saw this post a few days ago I too have the same problem. I visited my doc this morning. Well, actually my therapist and she told me that it is your cravings being averted to something else.. She said try having an apple or something. And to not eat the sweets you are craving lol.

I'm in Saginaw, Michigan I don't think they have those here lol. I've never seen them.
But I do know my therapist said when you crave sweets not to eat them! Because you're just taking care of another craving. She said to eat an apple or do something to distract myself like I would if I was craving my drug of choice.
Thank god I don't have cravings for that!
Thank god for suboxone!

Have a good night girlies. Smile

I'm glad to see I'm not alone! My kinnesiologist told me it's my pancreas that's adjusting without opiates & causing the cravings. She said it will subside in a few weeks, but, I'm not too sure about that. I've googled it & there are a few topics about this and it seems to be quite common. I'd hate to gain weight. I lost 5 lbs in detox bringing me down to 114lbs, but now I'm up to 118lbs. I can gain a little, but not too much. I think fruit is a great idea. That & popsicles & hot chocolate & pixie stix & Entemann's Chocolate doughnuts, & Kit Kats & Dansk butter cookies & whipped cream, etc........ LOL!

Entenmann's Raspberry Cheese Danish. Smile
Plus everything that livelovelaugh just posted. You ladies sure know about the good stuff. When I entered into recovery I weighed 106 lbs. I now weigh 150 (after loosing 10 lbs this summer)
Apples is a good idea, natural, lots of fiber and would help along the stopped up pipes that comes with taking Suboxone.

I've been substituting clementines for my sweet cravings. However, I posted on Facebook that I've been a good girl so Santa should bring me a very large box of Godiva Dark Chocolate covered pretzels. YUMMMMMMMMMMY! Hopefully someone will come through for me Smile

I have craved sweets every day since I started suboxone lol.
I don't think it will subside. I wish it did though! Lol.

I love little Debbie's. They are really sweet and there are many different types. I used to buy them for my son for a treat. Now I find myself buying three of them. One for him and two for me lol.

When I entered detox I was 118lbs. And when I got out I was 113lbs. Now here I am 5 months later at 142lbs. And I am happy. I've never been more healthy in my life.

I realize I told you I am four months sober and just said detox was 5 months ago so I will explain why.
I entered detox 5 months ago and just detoxes with suboxone. And didn't go home with any. I relapsed 2 weeks later, used for a week or two and then said to myself "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?" I realized it was stupid. And found myself an outpatient suboxone clinic and started my recovery 2 weeks after my relapse.
And I have been more involved and trying harder with my recovery thos time around. Making sure I learn all the right tools to stay sober after suboxone.

That is so awesome that you were able to seek treatment after a relapse! You must be so proud of yourself! I am so proud of you! And you know what? Who cares if I gain weight....really! As long as I am healthy & happy is all that really matters!

Thank you! Not very many people say they are proud of me. Just my fiancé and a few of his family members. That really means a lot!
I am very proud of myself it was a hard thing to do!

But I am much more healthy now than I was before treatment. I was so small. I am 5'3" and I was below average. Now I think I am right where I am supposed to be. And I am happy!
I don't mind the weight gain. Lol.

The good thing is I started gaining weight a week after starting suboxone and have stopped gaining weight for about 2 weeks now and have been at 142. Haven't gained any more. So I think I was meant to weigh 142lbs and I just never have my body what it needed to have. I know I didn't eat right, if I even ate at all before I started treatment. Now I eat like I'm supposed to.

Have a good day! Talk to you soon! Smile

Aaaaawww Jasmine !!
Your son is at such a precious age. And a beautiful name you have chosen !
I'm so happy that you chose to get into treatment
so that you may enjoy every moment with him as he grows and changes almost daily !

I have two kids. My son is 18 and in his first year of college (believe me, times goes by
quickly !) Speaking of due dates, I had my son on my husbands birthday !and my daughter is 13 going on 30 ! She's a " fashionista" and is such a joy
and makes me laugh every day !

My kids know all about my addiction. They lived through it with me - I had to be honest not
only with myself, but with them, in order to heal completely.

Thanks Blue!
He is at a very precious age. He's very smart! Lol
And yes time does fly!

But I have a new problem. Sad Unfortunately.
I was taking adderall for adult ADHD and I stopped because I was afraid of being dependent on something new and sure enough I'm having horrid withdrawal symptoms. Sleeping all day, tired with no motivation and very irritable!
It sucks. I got into treatment to get away from these problems. Sad

I can start takin it again. I did call my doctor. I told him I wanted to get off. And he said cold turkey isn't the best way, but the withdrawals will only last about three days. Sure enough I woke up this morning feeling fine! Well almost fine. It's the fourth day and I am feeling much better.
But it was a very scary experience!
I just prettying slept the past three days away!
Thank god I had my family here to help with Cooper!
Well my fiancé and his family.

Thank you!
I love his name too. I picked it out. It was between Cooper Holden and Aiden Michael. If I have another boy he will be Aiden Michael.
I still very tired.. All day. Because of the withdrawal from the adderall.
But it's not half as bad as it was the first few days. I can't believe a suboxone doctor would prescribe something so addictive to somebody trying to get off of one thing!
I will have a talk with him at my next appt.

Any suggestions on less addictive medications for adult ADHD? And suggestion would be appreciated!
Have a good day girlies. Smile

I am glad that you are starting to feel better. I wish that you had talked to your doctor before stopping your medication though, it can be scary and sometimes there are some side effects of stopping a medication suddenly. But that is water over the bridge so you don't need a lecture about it now.

There are different types of medication available to treat ADHD some are stimulants such as the one you were previously taking and some that are not. I'll give you a link so you can read up on them and talk to your doctor to see which one may be right for you. Click here for the link >> ADHD medications and information.

I know you don't want to become dependent on another medication but remember there is a difference between addiction and dependence. Sometimes you have to look at the good in the medication and see if it will out way the cons. If it helps you and you don't abuse it, you may want to think about taking it.

I too love your son's name. I have a good friend who also has a son named Cooper, he just turned 2 and is starting to become more and more independent. He can give you the cutest scowl to show you that he knows what he is doing and doesn't need anyone to show him how.

Thank you Dee.
I will read up on them and talk to my doctor. The adderall did help a lot. I just got really scared. Sad I wish I didn't do what I did. Because I will probably just stay on the adderall and I went through four horrible and unnecessary days of wd.
Thank you. I picked out his name and I love him to death!
He is very independent also. He is almost three years old.
He talks a lot too. He has a very big vocabulary! He is advanced for his age according to his doctor. That's something that is very good to hear.

So I decided to just get back on the adderall and stay on it. I do have ADHD and do need a medication for it. And the adderall does work very well. Sorry to worry you guys about it. Quitting cold turkey was a bad decision. I just read some horror stories about how addictive it is and panicked!
Thanks for your support guys!

That's okay. I do admire you for wanting to stop taking abusive medications. The key is to identify any medication that you may be tempted to over do or abuse for lack of a better word. Taking Adderall is okay as long as it puts you where you need to be. Your not doctor shopping to get it, your not running out of it early so your taking it as prescribed and it does help you.

As long as you are being monitored by your doctor you are safe and it should be safe to take with Suboxone.

I've probably talked the subject to death so I will let it go. I'm like that though once I get my mind set on something I talk it to death. Have to work on that.

I hope everyone is doing okay this week. Check in when you are able.

Hello Guys!
I just wanted to tell you all to have a nice day. Smile

My day isn't going so great.
I was supposed to work at 3:00 and my boss called me and told me he didn't need me to come in. I asked him why and he said he had made a mistake in hiring me because he can't afford to pay another employee right now and he is so sorry but he has to let me go. Sad He said if anybody quits or gets fired I will be the first person he calls but it sure was a big bummer!

But maybe it was a good thing. I just figured it wasn't meant to be and maybe everything else depends on me not having that job so I have time in my life for my dream job.

Good news though! Our new house is almost finished! Got the painting done the day before yesterday and the new floors will be done today! Only a few more things to do and we will be able to move our family into our new house!
We need more room! The condo we live in now is quite small lol!

I also have news about my suboxone. Bad news. My recovery plan I made with my doctor and therapist was a two year plan. And I just found out as of January 2013 my insurance will only cover one year of suboxone therapy. And the 1 year doesn't start in January try count the moths from 2012 that I was on it. My doc said he talked to a few people with my insurance and I can maybe get a 6 month extension on my prior authorization but that's it! I am so worried! I may have to taper too quickly! More quickly than I am comfortable with and that is very scary to me!

I don't want to feel any withdrawal symptoms at all!

My son is pretty preoccupied with his new leapster video game. So there isn't much for me to do around here since the dishes and laundry is done and the house is clean!

I always look forward to hearing from you all! And I hope to hear from you soon!

You ladies must be pretty busy these last few days because I haven't had much new to read!

I know you all are busy but I could really use some comforting words, support and prayers right now!

Hear from you all soon! XOXOXOXO
