Some questions about my first dr visit Empty
PostSubject: Some questions about my first dr visit   Some questions about my first dr visit EmptySat 21 Jul 2012, 5:31 pm

So I was on opiates for around 2 years, and have been on suboxone for around a year. I've been getting it from a friend. I usually take around a quarter of a pill per day. Im wondering if I spill the beans to my doctor, or just let him/her do their thing and tell me what's up. I can go close to a day and a half on a quarter. Im not sure what to do. I really think subs are my way out though. They've helped me so much, I didn't do opiates once in the time I've been on subs.

By the way, im a newbie, names Karben. Yo yo yo!

Karben be honest with your dr. Honesty is the best policy. You don't want to have them prescribe more than necessary, b/c that can lead to addictive behaviors in my experience. That being said sub isn't a cure. Try to get into some type of therapy or support group to find out what made you an addict, if you are an addict. If you're not then you don't need to take suboxone, it is different from other opiates and is meant to treat addiction. If you do decide to take suboxone, please get it legally from a prescriber and don't give it to anyone else. I'm glad that it has helped you, but please look at whether you actually need it. If you do then please do it right. I don't mean any offense and I'm not judging or attacking you, but people selling and abusing suboxone makes it hard for people who are looking for help. We all pay for the stigma attached to suboxone every time some one is busted for selling or buying it. It lumps this very good treatment into the category with other drugs of abuse. That and I've known many people who have gotten into recovery and started to get their lives back only to get caught up in something cause they wanted to help a friend. Get your own script and keep it to yourself is the most loving honest advice I can give you.

Good luck and God bless you. I will pray for you and your recovery.

Hi Karben
My name is Dee and it is good to have you here on the forum.
It's always hard to know what to do. I am glad though that you have decided to seek out your own provider for Suboxone. Too many things can go wrong when you are getting them from someone else. The chance of them loosing their provider and putting your without or you getting caught buying them and risking jail. None is a ideal situation. It doesn't help anyone and only leads to more bad news about diversion. There is safety in having your own provider

When you made the appointment for the provider what did you tell them at the time? Are they planning to start you on Suboxone at that first appointment or will it be just an intake of paperwork or did they tell you what to expect?
What you tell them probably depends on what you already told them. I believe that honesty is necessary in recovery. Starting out with a lie, makes another lie to make up for the first lie.
Addiction is built on one lie after another, recovery on the other hand is a chance to start out fresh.
Congratulations on your recovery!
Dee

Hey Karben,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm a little confused since you said your on Suboxone after being on opiates for 2 years.
Are you taking the Suboxone to get off opiates? If so, and Suboxone has been working for you then I would be honest with your doctor and tell him you've been on it a year already.

It is an ideal recovery tool and like Monica said, therapy will also aid you in a complete recovery plan.

Good luck, keep us informed !!
