It pleases me to announce that our Radio Program this month will feature two guests from our forums.
From our Methadone forum we have joining us, Mr. Seth M. Poynter. And from our Suboxone forum we have Beth Fye. Both of these amazing people are currently patients that have been able to turn their lives around with the help of Medicated Assisted Treatment.
The topic for this month's program will be "Cross Addiction." Many times, more often than not, when patients try to stop using opiates some doctors may try and help the patient by prescribing another drug to help them with anxiety and/or sleep. Most commonly Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan ) are used. While these drugs can be useful when used for short periods of time, one can build up a tolerance over time and little by little the dose is increased as the tolerance itself increases and before you know it, you not only have an addiction to opiates but to Benzodiazepines as well. This is known as a "Cross Addiction."
What happens when you suddenly try and stop taking a Benzodiazepine or "Benzo?"
How long can an addiction to Benzos last?
Can a person safely stop taking Benzos?
What can I do if I find myself addicted?
Please join us on Tuesday March 2, 2010 from 7pm-8pm for Addiction Recovery Education.
