| Our dental and vision insurance kicked in finally and I have a whole mouth of teeth that are going to HAVE to come out. There isnt one that is worth saving from what they told me about two years ago and I cant imagine that they have gotten any better. My question is, Should I just taper off before the day that they pull them because I have to be put under....OR should I just deal with the pain??? I dont know if I will have them all pulled at once,or if I will have it split up. I have heard its best to do it either way, one way it will all be over and another way I will have sometime to get over it and then do it again.. I have to also get fitted for dentures at 34.WOW, never thought that I would ever have to get all my teeth pulled this young. My pregnancy with my daughter started the downfall of my teeth and then getting doped all the time and not caring if I brushed them made it worse. I am not good with pain, PMS cramps double me over. Which for me they feel terrible....I feel like my insides are coming out, I wish that we could have afforded medical insurance because I need some medical stuff done as well but all in good time. I am just afraid that if I dont taper off and they put or try to put me out, that it wont work or something.I dont mind to taper off, and I know that I can do it but I will have to go back on it after its all over. My husband and I have already discussed this, and he said well if you taper off couldnt you just stay off of it? I told him, no because I am not ready to be off completely. Someting else, instead of them writing me a bunch of pain pills that I dont want anyways, I wonder if they would just write me Subutex and save me some money or would they not be able to where I get Suboxone already??? Kinda confused on alot of this, I have done internet research but most say they had no problem and then some say that they hurt like mad. Back when I had four teeth pulled a couple years ago, they gave me some type of anesthesia that didnt completely put me under I think it was Versed??? with some Fentanyl...I do remember the Fentanyl because at that time I was excited to be getting a good strong drug LOL> Oh how far I have came since then.... Has anyone on here had any dental work being on Suboxone? How did you do with it? I dont want to know that they are pulling anything out of my head. I have anxiety issues, I am afraid if I know they are doing something that I will freak out and not allow them to finish. Yes, I have bad anxiety when it comes to that. They had to give me nerve meds before my surgeries..They said if I didnt calm down, they would have to reschedule and it was things that HAD to be done,so I got my husband and mother in there cracking jokes and they gave me some Valium and I was fine within a few minutes. I will be able to get my glasses for 20 bucks, I will post a new profile picture when I get them. I am hoping to get them this weekend. Also, husband informed me tonight we are saving up from now until the middle of next month to go see LES MISERABLES YAYAYAYAYYYAYAY!!!! I will have to take a box of Kleenex, but it will be a magical night. | |

| Hello April, How are you? Besides the worrying about getting teeth pulled of course.
First off I'd like to say that I am sorry that you have to go through this and get all of your teeth pulled. A few years ago my mother got all of her teeth pulled. Every dentist is different but I'm guessing yours will pull them all at once since that is what they did for my mother. My mother said she was much happier getting them all pulled at once because she didn't have to get some pulled, go through the pain and healing, and then get more pulled and go through the pain and healing again. She said that it was better to get it all over with at once. Also I wanted to mention that my mom got fitted for her dentures a day or two after getting her teeth pulled. When she got the dentures, a few weeks after getting her teeth pulled and her gums at healed, the dentures didn't fit. Because they fitted them to her un-healed gums and the shape of her gums changed as it healed. She also mentioned that because of the pain after getting them pulled when they asked her to bite down on the mold to make the dentures she couldn't bite as hard as she could because of the pain. My mother suggests, from her experience that you should get fitted for the dentures After your gums are healed.
I really don't think it is a good idea for you to wean off of the suboxone before doing this simply because it puts you at risk of relapse.. 1: What if they give you a script for opiates and you won't have the sub as a blocker and you could be more tempted. 2: What if you do decide to take the opiates that they may prescribe and you'd have to start all over again. Like with the mishap you've talked about having before.
I do know that the suboxone can be used for pain.. Both from research and my experience. I got my four wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago and instead of taking my whole dose like I usually did (all at once), I took smaller doses every four to six hours and it helped tremendously with the pain. I know that suboxone is used for pain for many people and I think that it would be better for you to just use the suboxone you have for pain instead of stopping it and risking relapse. But that's just my opinion. I hope you don't think that I'm trying to tell you what to do. LOL. I'm just trying to help by sharing my experiences and knowledge.
Also I know that when they pulled my teeth they used Versed.. (You were right with the name.) It is a sedative that makes it so you can see and hear everything, just a bit distorted LOL, but you can't move or feel anything at all. When I got my teeth pulled all they used was versed and no opiates.. I had to specifically remind them that I was on suboxone and not to give me any opiates though. So I was thinking maybe you should do the same.
I was also given Valium before getting my teeth pulled because I was very nervous and freaking out a bit. LOL. Valium is a great thing when used correctly in situations such as the ones you and I are talking about, but it can be very dangerous if abused. I know that my PCP (Primary care physician) who I get my suboxone from and he also takes care of my mental health disorders (ADHD and bipolar disorder) Will NOT prescribe Valium to any of his patients that have abused drugs. Unless there are emergency circumstances. He prescribed it to me to use as needed for panic attacks. Which I have had a few times. But the Prozac I take as a part of my treatment for bipolar disorder also helps to keep them under control. Sometimes I do cheat LOL and use the Valium to help me sleep and not just for the panic attacks. Haha. But I don't think my doctor would be too upset if I told him this. Since I do it very rarely and I don't abuse them.
Anyways, I hope that you don't have a panic or anxiety attack when you go to the dentist to go through this. I know that I did, LOL but it is a hard thing to go through! I will keep you in my prayers. I will pray that things go smoothly with you, I will pray that you find a pain management plan that works for you whether you use the suboxone for pain or not. I will pray that you don't relapse because of the pain from getting your teeth pulled. And I will also pray that you are blessed with a gentle dentist. I say this because mine injected me with the Novocaine and cut my gums with a scalpel before I was numb and the Novocaine had a chance to work.. He was a real douche, pardon my language.
Today is a very gloomy day where I am at. It isn't very cold anymore, thank god, but it is raining and lightening and thundering.. Has been for a few days now. I just want the storm to pass so Cooper and I can have a nice sunny day to go outside and play. With no mud, rain or cold winds. LOL.
I hope that it is nicer where you are at!! LOL. By the way I've been meaning to ask you where at in Kentucky you lived. I used to live in Kentucky. Paducah Kentucky to be exact. I lived there for six months when I went with my mother to visit some friends of hers. It was actually supposed to be a one week trip, but she ended up marrying one of these friends we went to visit. And we had to live there until his work could transfer him to their company here in Michigan.
Well, I think I've rambled enough LOL. I hope all is well with you and that you will have a wonderful and blessed day. And like I said before I will keep you in my prayers!
Much love. Jazz.

| Hi April, Having your teeth pulled can be both an exciting experience and one full of anxiety. Like you I had all of mine pulled when I was in my early 30's. I was also pregnant with my son at the time. I was not put to sleep due to my pregnancy. In a lot of places they won't do dental work when you are pregnant but in my case they did. The dentist took molds of my mouth before hand so he was able to put my dentures in the same day as pulling my teeth. I went back the next day so he could check me and the teeth out. I remember the pain. He had to take out the denture he put in the day before and it hurt like nothing I've ever experienced. That was way back in 1993 so I am sure things are done differently now days. I had about 17 pulled and other than the pain of my dentist taking the denture out, I didn't have a lot of pain. I think it is because I had been suffering from tooth pain for so long that just to have them out was a relief.
I have had several procedures where I have had to be put under while taking Suboxone. The doctor never told me not to take my dose but the day of my procedures, I skipped my morning dose. No problems in putting me to sleep at all.
When I had my lung biopsy I was also given a combination of Versed and Fentanyl. I don't remember a thing, although I did sleep most of the day after going home.
Versed is actually in the benzo family. It is a very short acting benzo that is often given in combination with Fentanyl because of it's ability to produce amnesia in patients who are undergoing uncomfortable procedures such as dental procedures or endoscopy.
I know a lot of people say that Suboxone doesn't help pain but I do agree with Jasmine. When taken in small doses every 4 hours it can be very helpful for pain and why take the risk of relapse. Again I am sorry that your husband feels the way he does. I know he wants you to stop taking Suboxone as soon as you can, but please don't feel rush or pressured into doing anything your not ready for. YOU are the one who will have to suffer the relapse. Yes he might too but not in the same way as you. Good luck and please let us know how everything goes. Dee
