| Subject: Is a Generic Suboxone possible in the near future? Tue 27 Oct 2009, 10:28 pm | |
| The makers of Suboxone; Reckitt Benckiser have in the past said they will not seek to develop a generic for their miracle product Suboxone when the patent ran out. That patent ran out on October 8,2009.
On October 8,2009 the pharmaceutical company Roxane was given the approval for their new drug which happens to be a generic Buprenorphine. When word got out that there was an approval by the FDA for a generic Buprenorphine the Internet seemed to go crazy. It seems like every forum that I visited was talking about the new "generic." The big question seemed to be, when and where can I get it. Excitement grew and is still growing. "Maybe now," many people are saying "I can afford this wonderful drug." While it is true that there is a generic available in some locations, I have to warn you that this is not a generic Suboxone that we are talking about. And a lot of doctors are hesitant to prescribe the Subutex unless you are having problems with the ingredient Naloxone. While the generic is indeed cheaper for the patients, the question is, "Will doctors be willing to prescribe it?"For those of you who happen to have a provider that is willing to prescribe the generic version it is available at most Walgreen's the cost of this medication is at a great savings one person was quoted at saying their prescription that normally runs at 134.00 a week was less than 40.00 this week. Which is approximately 2.75 per pill.Announcement from Roxane LaboratoriesROXANE LABORATORIES, INC.ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF BUPRENORPHINE ½ HCl SUBLINGUAL TABLETSCOLUMBUS, OH – October 8, 2009 – Roxane Laboratories, Inc. announced today the approval of its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Buprenorphine HCl Sublingual Tablets, 2mg and 8mg by the U.S. Food and DrugAdministration.
