Hi everyone. I took my first dose of suboxone on October 2, 2009 and at that time I truly believe I had found the miracle drug. Fast forward, I am taking a relatively low dose, but OMG, I cannot wake up! I have panic attacks before my drive to and from work because I know I'm going to doze while driving. Everyone has told me that once my body gets used to the drug I will get past that, well, I don't know if I'll still be alive once I get used to it, LOL! I mean I have almost crossed the road a couple of times. Thank God I carpool with my boyfriend most of the time. Oh and I tried No Doz, OMG, I thought I was dying, couldn't breathe or swallow, had several panic attacks until it wore off. I will never do that again. Can anyone help? On another note, I want to wean myself off since I'm only taking 8mg a day. How do I start that and has anyone had any success stopping suboxone? Thank you. Cathy

Hello Cathy
You have been taking Suboxone for 3 weeks. The stabilization phase for Suboxone can last 1-2 months. If it is affecting your driving that way, please talk to your doctor about it. Are you on any other medication other than the Suboxone? Suboxone can increase the effects of some medications and vise versa.
Suboxone has been used as a tool in detox. If that is what you are wanting to do instead of being a maintenance patient. I would suggest that you make sure that you have a strong support system in place. Counseling, family & friends. How are things going for you in your life right now? If you feel that you are ready to stop Suboxone then you can try and taper. But please be sure that you are ready. Once Suboxone is stopped there is a chance that you will experience cravings.
We have a taper schedule under the section labeled, Questions and information, Suboxone Tapers. The taper schedule are for 10 day, 5 day or even lower. Please talk to your doctor before you decided to do anything.
I'm sure the other members of the forum will be along soon to talk with you as well. Please remember Cathy, whatever you decide we are here to support you.
Yours in Recovery,
Dee
